The Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple one of the Scared 12 Jyotirlinga temples dedicated to Lord Shiva is located on the top of Nallamala Hills at Srisailam in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh on the banks of the Krishna River .The Bhramarambha Temple in the same complex is one of the eighteen Shakti Peethas in India.
Shivaji Maharaj came to Srisailam in 1677 AD. He constructed the northern entrance to Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple and is known as Shivaji Gopuram. Freedom fighter Sri Vaasudeva Balwanta Phatke also visited this holy place.
