Dwaraka-Porbandar-Somnath Back
Dwaraka:(Jamnagar district)Known as Dwarawati in Sanskrit is rated as one of the seven most ancient and sacred cities (Saptapuri) in the country. It was built on the banks of river Gomati by Vishwakarma instructed by Lord Krishna. Dvaraka has submerged six times and modern day Dwarka is therefore the seventh such city to be built in the area.
Original temple was built by Krishna`s great grandson, King Vajra and the present 5-storied temple was built in 16th century in limestone and sand. A flag is hoisted in the temple tower five times in the day. Pilgrims enter through Swarga Dwar and exit through Moksha Dwar.There are also shrines of Vasudeva, Devaki, Balarama and Revati, Subhadra, Rukmini Devi, Jambavati Devi and Satyabhama Deviin Dwaraka.
On the way to Bet Dwarka temple is a Rukmini Devi temple and can be reached by boat. A similar deity of Lord Dwarakanath is also kept in Bet Dwaraka. The temple has many Shrines for Lakshmi Narayana, Trivikrama, Jambavati Devi, Satyabhama Devi and Rukmini Devi.

This once flourishing harbor and religious capital is believed to have submerged under the sea after Lord Krishna left dwarka for vaikunth.Bet Dwarka is famous for its temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. shipwreck of Roman period in Bet Dwarka waters.
The archaeological explorations at Bet Dwarka Island have confirmed India’s trade and commerce with western countries and evidence of Indo-Roman trade.
The proposed Dwarka museum, where visitors can view through glass windows the ruins of the city is underway.

Nageshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines mentioned in the Shiva Purana.(There are three shrines believed as identical to this Jyotirlinga, viz. Jageshwar temple (near Almora -Uttarakhand), Nageshwara (near Dwaraka-Gujarat) and Nagnath (Aundha-Maharashtra).

The Somnath Temple:
(Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval-Saurashtra)is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines dedicated to God Shiva. Somnath means "The Protector of Moon God". The Somnath Temple was destroyed six times and rebuilt again lastly in November 1947.
First Soma(Moon God ) built the temple in gold,after he was cursed by his father-in-law Daksha,and established the Shivlinga at the Prabhas tirth and prayed Lord Shiva who decided to rest in that Lingam till eternity, and hence it became Jyotirlingam.Later Ravana built it in silver, and Lord Shri Krishna built the same in wood.
Prabhas Pattan was part of the princely state of Junagadh and after independence on November 12, 1947 Then Deputy Prime Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel directed the stabilization of the state by the Indian Army and ordered the reconstruction of the Somanath temple.
In May 1951, Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Republic of India, performed the installation ceremony for the temple.The present temple is managed by Shree Somnath Trust.
