Melghat Tiger Reserve Back
Spread on 1597.23 Sq. kms area between the southern ends of the Satpura ranges and the river Tapti at the northern limit on the border of Madhya Pradesh, Melghat Tiger reserve is protected by steep cliffs and rocky ravines. It is one of the first Project Tiger Reserves in India. Tributaries of river Tapti like Sipna, Dolar Gadga Khandu, Khapra, flow through the reserve. This is one of India`s most important tiger breeding habitats.
Flora: We find more than 700 species including trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers, and grass with Teak as the predominant tree species. Mammals: Tiger, leopard, sloth bear, jackal, sambar, wild dog, gaur, barking deer, nilgai, chital, chausingha, ratel, flying squirrel, wild boar, langur, Rhesus monkey, porcupine, pangolin, mouse deer, python, otter, blacknaped hare are found here.
Tourist Information Centres are set up in Amravati , Semadoh, Harisal, Gullarghat, and Chikhaldara. Amravati center provides orientation to tourists before they actually visit the Sanctuary. Semadoh Nature Education and Interpretation Center provides interpretation facilities. One can take Wildlife tours by vehicles or nature trails and view wildlife films. Beautiful Cottages are provided on the bank of Sipna. Nature camps for children and enthusiastic trackers are arranged here.
Harisal Center hilights tribal culture. Gullarghat center is convenient for visitors Akot and Akola interested in Medicinal wild plants. Sulainala waterfall, Mahadeo temple and Medicinal plant cultivation area are the tourist attractions.

ST buses from Amaravati via Paratvada upto Semadoh, Kolkaz.
One can also reach Dhakna in Melghat reserve by ST bus from Akola or Dhule. Mini busses available with prior reservation from Vadnera Railway Station.
All busses from Amaravvati or Nagpur going to Dharni, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Indore stop at Semadoh. One can trek along the banks of River Sipna from Semadoh.
