Unexplored Buddhist caves of Bedse in the Raotawadi village near Kamshet are ancient (1st Century) Buddhist caves on the line of Ellora or Karle caves near Lonavala, pertain to the Hinayana Buddhism. Probably built prior to the Karle caves, the sculptures and the styles including the Stupas and Chaityas are similar but smaller than the Karle caves. The Viharas and the Stupas are beautiful. Stupa has a small wooden umbrella on top
Karla Caves is a complex of ancient (3rd to 2nd century B.C) Buddhist caves built on the difficult terrain of a rocky hillside. With great windows light the interiors the main cave has a magnificentChaitya with huge pillars, intricately carved reliefs, sculptures of both males and females, as well as animals, including elephants and lions. Within the complex are other carved chaityas (prayer halls) or as well as viharas (dwelling places for the monks). The caves has arched entrances and vaulted interiors. The central motif is a large horseshoe arch.
