Nanded Back
Situated on the north bank of Godavari river Nanded is famous for Sikh Gurudwaras. "Nandi" The Vahana of Lord Shiva, performed penance on the banks of River Godavari and hence the place was called as "Nandi-Tata" and later known as Nanded. Pandavas travelled through Nanded district during their Vanavsa (Exile). Nandas were the rulers for generations. Shri GuruGobind Singhji breathed his last here.
Takhat Sachkhand Shri Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib the main Gurudwara built by Maharaja Ranjit Singhji,here is one of the four High seats of Authority for the Sikhs.
The fort of Nanded surrounded by Godavari River on three sides is in dilapidated condition. The fort houses a beautiful garden and water works.
Nanded is also the Centre for learning Sanskrit and birth place of the Saint poets like Vishnupant Sesa and Raguhunath Sesa and Vaman Pandit.
