Rajmachi Park is a beautiful garden before the beginning of the Ghat commanding a view of Rajmachi Fort and the huge valley. In Ryewood Park amidst majestic tall trees is an old Mahadeo temple. Approachable from INS Shivaji and Kurwande Village Duke`s Nose is a cliff which resembles pointed nose of late Duke Wellington. It also derives its name "Nagfani" (Hood of Snake) from its shape. Shivaji Park a playground which was converted into a garden.Lohagad Darshan garden in Bhangarwadi houses a big statue of Veer Savarkar. At the beginning of the Khandala Ghat Amruntanjan point, one can get the panoramic view of the valley, Dukes Nose and city of Khopoli.
Tata Garden, between Lonavala and Khandala Kune Falls invites to have bath even after the monsoon is over.Tiger`s Leap near INS Shivaji gives a fascinating view of the valley from the safe confines of a big hole. From Sakur Plateau on the way to INS Shivaji at a height of 1000 feet one can view Tungi, Korigad, Lohagad forts.Monkey Hill above Khopoli town is a favourite picnic spot.
Situated on a picturesque hill Kaivalya Dham Yoga Centre near Valvan lake imparts yoga education.Manashakti Kendra near Varsoli, Atma Santulan Village (Ayurvedic Therapy), Antar Bharatiya Balgram founded in 1966 for economically backward children. Bhairavnath Devasthan (Dhak) close to Lonavala is situated on a mountain tough to climb with a narrow zigzag path, slippery steps carved out of a rock and a creeper to reach the temple. However it offers a fascinating variety of natural beauty.
Forts & Caves Near Lonaval_Khandala:
10 kms away from Lonavala, Rajmachi Fort on Mumbai Pune road, provides a view historic Rajmachi Fort. The fort east of Rajmachi is known as Shrivardhan fort with two huge water tanks having water all year round and watchmen posts at the semicircular entrance. Between Shrivardhan and Manoranjan, there is an old temple of Shri Bhairavnath. Nearby is a cave depicting Buddha period and Maratha style.
Approached from the road behind Bhairavnath temple Manoranjan Fort is in a state of ruin having a square lake of water, with clean water all year round. A straight rock divides this lake into two parts and the person knowing this place can walk through it.
Located to the east of Lohagad fort Visapur Fort famous for its protective walls with intricate designs, has a huge plateau surrounding it.
10 kms from Lonavala Lohagad Fort was used for keeping prisoners in the year 1564.. There are three gates out of which First Delhi gate is a spectacular sight. The third gate especially is very exquisite. A huge cave outside was used for storing grains during the rainy season.Neare by is a tomb and a Shivlinga and tank of sweet water built Nanasaheb Phadnis. Surrounded by Pavana Dam Tunga Fort can be approached by the motor boat. With slippery roads it is a stiff fort to climb. There is a of Mahadeo temple on the fort.
Karla Caves are the ancient Buddhist "Chaitya Caves" and can be reached S.T. buses from Lonavala. At the entrance, there is a small temple of Ekvira Devi which is thronged by devotees during Navratri and Chaitra. Bhaja Caves similar to Karla Caves but of a much smaller scale caves are also in Chaitya style. The rays of the setting sun fall on these caves.BedsaCaves located between Kadde and Bedsa on Mumbai Pune road near Kamshet, are as big as Karla Caves but as they are located on a side off the main road there is not much tourist traffic here.
Lakes In Lonavala & Khandala:
Tungarli Lake near Tungarli village supplies water to Lonavala City.
On the way to INS Shivaji Lonavala Lake owned by central railway is a very scenic spot. Indryani river is supposed to have originated here.
Pavna Lake commands panoramic view of the Pavna Dam.
Valvan Lake where Tata company has constructed a beautiful dam and a garden. Bushi Lake lined by lush green hill on one side and small waterfalls on other side attracting tourists here especially during monsoon.
