Popularly known as Kashi of Southern India Harihareshwar in Raigad District,
is surrounded by four hills named Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and
Pushpadri and is bordered by Bankot Creek where the sacred river
Savitri enters the Arabian Sea..
Harihareshwar Temple complex has two adjacent temples. Devotees are expected to visit Kalbhairav
temple first, worishp
Shri Kalbhairav and Shri Yogeshwari and then enter the
main Harihareshwar temple housing an ancient Shiva Linga in the
group of four
Climbing down the hill "Pradakshina" route
goes around the temple, along the sea shore. It is not advisable to go on this
route during high tide. Ramabai,
Senior Madhavrao Peshwe`s queen visited here to worship Hari Hareshwar, praying
for the good health of her ailing husband and got the steps
constructed reaching the sea shore from the Temple. There is a “Gayatri Kundâ€
in Honey Comb Formation on the rocks, where one can always take a sip of holy
sweet water.
Harihareshwar is also a popular beach resort with two beaches, north and to the south of the temple.MTDC resort is on the south beach.
Nearby Shrivarshan and Diveagar Beach are a popular weekend beach destinations.
The Kalbhairav
Jayanti Utsav (Festival on Birthday of Deity Kalbhairav) is celebrated on
Kalabhairav Jayanti the day commemorating the birthday of Lord Bhairava, the fierce
manifestation of Shiva. This year it falls on November 21 2016.
