Chandoli National Park Back
Spread over317.67 km² near the Chandoli Dam Chandoli National Park was established in May 2004, (declared Wildlife Sanctuary in 1985). Located at the junction of Sangli, Kolhapur, Satara and .Ratnagiri District it lies between the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary and Radhanagri Wildlife Sanctuary and is part of the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve. It receives water supply from the Warna river and other small streams and rivers.
On May 21, 2007, Chandoli Park and Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary was declared under Project Tiger as The Sahyadri Tiger Reserve and it was estimated to have nine tigers and 66 leopards in 2007. Chandoli is home for about 23 species of mammals, 122 species of birds, 20 species of amphibians and reptiles. Tigers, leopard cats, Indian bison, Sambar, Sloth bears, Indian giant squirrels, barking deer, mouse deer, blackbuck Antilope are found here.
Prachitgad and Bhairavgad forts of 17th century proudly carry the foot prints of Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. Prachitigad houses ruins of the Bhavani temples, palatial buildings and Kalavantin vihir.
