Tips To Tourist (Marathi)
While traveling

(1) A daily travel plan should be prepared in advance. Train, bus departure times, number etc  information should be written down. Estimate the cost of Travel, accommodation, food, sightseeing, religious rituals etc. in advance and note addresses of residences along the way, phone numbers at home etc.

(2) While making railway reservations keep a margin of one day in it and make a return reservation.

(3) A margin of few hours should be kept while choosing connected trains because sometimes the trains may arrive later than expected.

(4) While making hotel reservations, preferably choose a hotel near the railway/bus station.

(5) Stay with designated group during conducted tour/sight seeing by bus. While getting down, write down the number of the bus and also understand its next schedule so that if you miss the bus, you can reach with the help of another vehicle.

(6) Necessary luggage should be taken with you during the journey. Put a sticker with your name and address on the bags and carry nylon rope and chain for tying things. In many places porters are not available. Especially at night time so you have to carry your luggage yourself. Therefore remember to travel light

(7) While travelling keep money in cash only for necessity. Keep the checks with you. Do not keep important things  such as Travel tickets/reservation of hotels and traveler`s cheques in one bag.If theft happens you will then lose all in one go.

(8) Necessary medicines should be taken with you in the carry on baggage. When going on conducted tours, inform the tour manager in advance about any issues you have (examples: Asthma/Diabetes/Blood Pressure)

(9)Keep Clove, Cardamom, Antacid, licorice powder, Sutsekhara and also keep medicines for cold and cough, First aid materials (iodine, cotton, barnol, calendula, Bandage, Iodex, Dettol) Cold Cream, Mosquito Coil, Odomos etc.

(10) If  you have motion sickness then while traveling by car, wet the finger and put it in the ear for a minute before traveling and repeat three times. This will help reduce motion sickness. Keeping a stick of licorice or a betel leaf in the mouth also helps.

(11) Your home address, phone number, addresses of next of kin, identity card, etc should be kept This is especially necessary for the elderly. Also keep post cards with your address written.

(12) Consider the season as much as possible while deciding the trip. In November-December the east coast receives substantial rainfall every year. During July-August in Assam region rivers flood. Jammu-Srinagar road (Jawahar Tunnel) closes for a week  when it snows in December-January.  At such times there is a fear of getting stuck.

(13) Dont share your name, address, visiting card etc. to a stranger while travelling. Do not take parcels etc. given by a stranger. If you are planning any small purchases, keep only required amount in pockets and avoid displaying your all cash by opening wallet.

(14) Keep dry food for children. It is convenient to keep the biscuit crumbs with it. Also keep small plastic containers of sugar and salt. Only lemons should be bought and you can have fresh syrup ! Dates, dry fruits, granulated sugar, for thirst and hunger during wandering. Take from a small plastic bag. Limelet tablets should also be kept.

(15) Small knives, knives, scissors, spoons, glass for drinking water in the bag (Helps in drinking tea in train) soapbox, body and clothes soap, tooth brush-paste, Needle-thread, buttons, candles, boxes, etc. If kept right, useful at the right time.
